Causes
The cause of inverted nipples could be down to genetics, or as a result of bodily changes for example after childbirth or fluctuating weight. The nipple usually looks inverted when the milk ducts are too tight. Sometimes, the nipple may just be ‘shy’ and protrudes only with stimulation.
If the nipple suddenly becomes inverted and is not a result of breastfeeding or surgery, it’s advisable to speak to a medical doctor before seeking inverted nipple correction.
Procedure
In cases where the milk ducts are too tight, a simple operation can be carried out to release the nipple that is being pulled inwards. This is usually done by stretching the milk ducts, or where necessary, cutting.

The most common surgical procedure involves making an incision at the base of the nipple, before separating or stretching the milk ducts using internal stitches.
