Having a baby brings extraordinary joy – but few women will disagree that it plays havoc with the mother’s body.
Breasts lose volume and shape, skin is disinclined to ping back to its former size, fat has been redistributed and refuses to shift again…
Post-maternity body contouring generally involves a breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction and can help a woman recapture the smooth lines she enjoyed before having children – and this is often an important step in recovering lost confidence.
When Mr Maisam Fazel’s Essex patients attend their follow up appointments after their mummy makeovers, they usually express great satisfaction over the results – but are anxious to know how to maintain them. Here are four tips.
Contents
1. The first step is to heal well
When the body is allowed to heal steadily and without compromise, the risk of future complications is minimised – and the optimal aesthetic results realised.
Follow your surgeon’s mummy makeover aftercare instructions to the letter – avoiding lifting and stretching, diligently wearing your compression garments and giving yourself time to heal – and you’re off to the best possible start.
2. Don’t let your weight yoyo
Fluctuations in weight will jeopardise the taut new lines created by your mummy makeover. If you intend to lose weight, do so before your surgery, and avoid putting strain on your skin afterwards by maintaining a steady weight.
3. Make skin savvy lifestyle choices
Sun, alcohol, cigarettes and dehydration all age the skin and damage its levels of elastin. When the skin is less elastic, it struggles to keep your silhouette smooth and firm.
4. Be realistic about what is achievable
During your Essex mummy makeover consultation, Mr Maisam Fazel will discuss the limitations of surgery and emphasise the importance of realistic expectations. If you have unrealistic objectives, you are more likely to be dissatisfied with the results and run the risk of sabotaging them by not taking good enough care of yourself.
