Tuberous Breast Information
What is Tuberous Breast?
Tuberous breast is so named for when breasts have a ‘tube like’ appearance, this can also be described as the appearance of the breasts being constricted at the bottom. The areola will often be enlarged and look cone-like, while the nipple may also appear droopy.
The condition is relatively common and will often become apparent around the time of puberty – however women will often wait much longer to seek remedy, not least because they or their family may not have the finances at the time of puberty.
Tuberous breast correction usually addresses:
- Breast asymmetry
- Abnormal appearance of the nipple and areola
- Constricted breasts
- Lack of breast volume
Treatment
Tuberous breast is not a health concern, there is no direct medical need to seek treatment.
Instead, treatment has the benefit of improving a clear physical imperfection and this in turn often doing so much to boost confidence and self esteem. The breasts can be a key part of a woman’s identity and so a very obvious issue, the tube-like appearance, can greatly reduce confidence – especially through puberty and then young womanhood.
If someone had tuberous breasts but this did not concern them in the slightest, it could be argued that there was little benefit to treatment.
However, for many this is not the case. Instead they have breasts that mean they have body confidence issues. This can impact relationships, even something like a holiday – it may be harder to enjoy the beach if you have body concerns.
This is the wonderful benefit of tuberous breast treatment, it removes what has been a concern, often for many years. The women who emerge post treatment are more confident and far better able to portray the best version of themselves, the impact of this can be seen through work, relationships and all aspects of life.
Considerations
There is no singular best treatment and so this is where surgeon skill and experience are so important.
The treatment begins a stage much earlier with a thorough consultation, here Doctor Fazel will perform a full examination and discuss with you the best course of action. As a leading oncoplastic and aesthetic surgeon, Doctor Fazel has a wealth of techniques at his disposal.
Breast augmentation through implants or expanders may be suitable, alternatively fat transfer might be the better option. A breast lift, mastopexy, will be the ideal treatment for others.
In many cases, the best treatment will be a combination of approaches.
